Recently, I attended an eighyth birthday party - yes, 80! - and marvelled at this beautiful celebration that his wife had put together. Eighty years! I always thought that was OLD; but, in Dee's case, it's not so. As his wife puts it, he passionate about Nebraska, the Air Force, Rotary, his garden, golf, his dog and his family. He is a cancer survivor of both prostate and breast cancer and he takes his wife out every Friday night. He is a lover of life and is very proficient in the Art of Friendship. As I look around the party, I saw all of our friends that we had shared the years of children, of boating together, of growing our businesses, of surge of economic gains, of bust of those gains, of loss of friends, of retirements (not Dee), of many, many good times. Along the way he has always been a good friend to many of us. Well done, Dee, well done.

Last night my husband and I attended the two First Friday openings. The first was held at Planet Wine on Main Street. George Callison organized several landscape artists for this show benefiting the Mesa Land Trust, an organization deticated to the preservations of lands free from future development. The art included photography, watercolor, pastels, and oils, and all worth a trip to see. A percent of sales goes to the MLT to help them in their work to preserve open spaces. Also, check out the wonderful selection of wines available at Planet Wine. It's a candy store of wines!
The second stop was at the Art Center for The Outsiders' annual show. As usual, the ladies had been busy traveling and painting this past year as expressed in their works. Geri Harris, an original member of the group, has stepped down from all the traveling and is working on some new endeavors. An invitation was extended to Mary Moss to join the group, and what a good choice. She fits right in. The colors, the energy, the enjoyment of being out doors are all present in these paintings. Don't miss the What is Art? section of the exhibit. My husband and I both found our favorites. Hope he remembers that it is the season for giving!
How lucky we are in Grand Junction to have so many wornderful avenues to view art. Don't miss next month's First Friday.
